  • How do you currently define the terms “writing,” “editing,” and “composing”?

  • What key terms are necessary for defining writing, editing, and composing? How do your key terms connect to provide you with a fuller definition of writing, editing, and composing?
  • How have your experiences with project two shaped your definitions?
  • How have your experiences with writing, editing, and composing outside of this course shaped your definitions?
  • Identify one specific change you’ve made to your theory of composing since week two of the course. What brought about this change?

I define the terms writing, editing and composing differently than i did before I took this class. Writing was something simple as well as editing and composing. writing was just writing your thoughts down or just a physical action, editing was fixing your writing and composing was a mystery to me. Now that we have worked on the theory of composing all semester I have a completely different understanding of what composing is. composing to me is now something very complex and i believe that it takes multiple components to compose something well.

project two shaped my definitions because I had to create something out of multiple texts and compose it into one thing. this changed my idea of composing because I had to really have a vision for what i wanted to create and execute my writing well and figure out how i wanted the layout of the project to be. A lot went in to composing project two and i think that it gave me a better understanding of what composing is.

The key terms used for writing editing and composing are vision, circulation, creativity, organization and audience. All of these key terms work together to create the complexity of composing. They all connect by contributing to the definition of composing and helping the reader to understand what composing is. Without those key terms i believe that you would not be able to compose something great if you do not take those key terms into consideration when composing something.

My experiences outside this course that have shaped my idea of writing, editing and composing are my internship with the online article site called the Odyssey. The odyssey makes me think creatively about what i want to write and figuring out how to compose the article to adhere to a certain audience is important because they want us to get as many views as possible on each article.

A change I have made to my theory is that i added in circulation because i think circulation is something important to consider when composing something because if your idea/writing/project is not well circulated then it must have not been well composed because it is hard for the viewer to understand.

I define writing as something that you do to express yourself, make a list, something you do everyday. I define composing as something that takes multiple key terms to completely grasp the entire idea of composing. Composing is a series of tasks that you need to go through first to fully achieve a great composed product. Composing is thinking about multiple different things and then applying it to your writing or project or whatever you are trying to make.
My prior experiences with writing and composing have been impacted by past experiences by altering how i think about writing and composing separately. It has impacted my understanding because before i really thought about composing and what composing is i thought it was simple. I did not realize that so many aspects have to go in to composing before something is created.
Key terms i think with while composing is vision, creativity, organization, audience and circulation. I think that all of these terms are equally important to composing for their own reasons.
So first, I started with the key term vision. I think vision is important for composing because without a vision, you are not able to compose anything. You need to have some sort of idea of what you want to create before you create it and that is the purpose of vision. Next, I think that creativity is also important to composing. Without creativity, composition is not unique or interesting. Creativity is important in making whatever you are composing appealing and worth looking at. Following creativity is organization. Organization is important to the process of composing because if you are not organized whatever you are composing is not going to be executed well. Your thoughts and processes need to be organized in order to make sense and be composed well. Organization is important in making whatever you are composing clear and concise. Audience is also very important when you are composing something You want to compose something that is aimed towards a specific audience and will appeal to a specific audience. It is important to consider audience when composing so that you will compose it well and to fit the specific audience you are trying to please. Lastly, circulation is important to composition. Circulation is important to composing because  that is what dictates what audience your composition/ composed final product reaches. It is important to consider circulation when composing something so that you can factor that in on how well your composition can be circulated. If you do not believe it could be well circulated, then you may want to alter some parts of your composing process.
