Journal 3 - Ali Buis Word Count 360

The key term I chose is audience and the artifacts are a lineup poster, a promo video, and an instagram picture. All of my artifacts surround the topic of Lollapalooza, which is a music festival in Chicago, IL that I attended this past summer. The lineup poster is one of the highest factors that lure a crowd in. If the headliners of a music festival are popular, more people will want to attend. The highest interest comes from this aspect. The promo video gets the audience excited to be a part of something. Music festivals have this atmosphere that is very welcoming and comforting, which is what keeps people coming back. Because Lollapalooza is in Chicago, you can see the skyline from the main stage; there is nothing that can awe a music lover more than seeing your favorite artist perform with the skyline behind them. The instagram picture I chose was from my favorite set of the festival, Flume. In the picture you can see how the audience is responding and how many people came to watch him. It was reported that he had a bigger crowd than one of the headliners did which is unreal. Audience plays a big role in the operation of these festivals because without the audience there would be no point.

Wysocki explains that visual representation of text matters. The lineup poster is an example of this because the font is very eye appealing. I agree with Wysocki’s viewpoint of text. I am a very visual person and I love aesthetics. I am more willing to read something that looks fun and lively rather than the same text and color all throughout. Wysocki also talks about animation and how the composer decides the animation, colors, and the different textual object that go along with it. This is important to note when looking at my artifact of the lineup poster because the colors work together with the text and objects to pull the reader in. I am 100% on the Wysocki train of why text matters and how it works to get people interested. I don’t think enough people focus on this aspect of text.
