Journal 3

The three artifacts I have chosen are makeup artist Jaclyn Hill's blog, her youtube channel, and her makeup collaboration with Becca. My key term that I chose was Network. I believe my artifacts teach us rhetoric because they are all three made for an audience. By watching Jaclyn Hill's makeup tutorials on her youtube channel the audience is visually learning how to apply their makeup in the exact same way that Jaclyn Hill applies hers. Jaclyn Hill also has an audience for her blog post. On her blog post she explains the latest makeup trends and goes into detail about what eyeshadows work best for certain skin colors, hair colors, eye colors etc. With all the different details Jaclyn Hill goes into on her blog makes me believe that she has audiences of all races and genders. Both her blog post and her youtube channel connect to her makeup collaboration in a rhetorical way as well because she is persuading her audience to purchase her makeup brand by advertising it on her blog and her youtube channel.

I did notice some trends with other artifacts, such as Khloe Kardashian's brand of jeans is modeled by women of all shapes and sizes, as well as Jaclyn Hill's makeup is made for people of all races and gender. Another trend I noticed is that a majority of the artifacts all involve persuasion or an audience.

From Edbauer's role of circulation I can conclude that Jaclyn Hills blog posts are being googled, which leads to her youtube channel which has over 3 million subscribers, and by watching her youtube channel or reading her blog where she mentions each brand and type of make up she used during the makeup tutorial a person would feel persuaded to look into her makeup line.

  1. I love your artifacts! I am familiar with Jaclyn Hill and her channel. I think it would be neat if you focused on audience for the project and the different audiences that she appeals to on her blog, youtube channel, etc. Just as you mentioned, Jaclyn gives tips and pointers for people of all shades--this could contribute to the different audiences she reaches.
