Rhetoric from Bitzer’s point of view is that a
rhetorical response is expected. Edbauer’s view of rhetoric is looking at the
idea of rhetorical situations like they all go together instead of them being
separate entities. Edbauer’s takes a cause and effect approach effect to
rhetoric. Kind of like Bitzer, they both believe that exigency is just as
important in how it guides others to respond. Some good real life examples are
when the person you speak to at the drive through window asks you if you would
like to try something particular before they ask you what you would like to eat
or order. This agrees with Bitzer because it is a persuasive tactic. Another example
is when Netflix asks you if you would like to keep watching. This agrees with
Edbauer’s idea of rhetoric because it is discrete and believes that rhetorical
ecology begins with viral economy.

I really never thought of Rice's approach to rhetoric as a cause and effect ordeal, but the Netflix example is a great touch to my understanding of how it all begins with viral economy. One simple question can lead to a marathon.
