Journal 3

I feel that my artifact teaches the main idea of Rhetoric. My artifacts are movie reviews, books, and radio (they could be subject to change). I believe all of these things teaches us or gives us an idea of what we want to do and what we like as an individual. These things are rhetorical and it’s something that we can respond to. For example, if a movie comes out that you wanted to see and you miss it, there are always the movie reviews to look forward to. Although, they aren’t your opinions it sort of gives you an idea of what the movie would be like if you read and or look at the ratings. Same for books; with books, you would be able to see the cover and or read the summary on the back to see if it’s the book that you actually want. In addition to that, we have the radio that is rhetorical as well. The radio is worldwide and it reminds you of all the new things that are to come such as, new movies, songs, events, tours, interviews, gossip and etc. The radio even discusses the traffic near you and sometimes gives alternatives for other routes.

The trend here between my artifacts seems pretty relatable to anyone else’s because they all fall under the category of rhetoric. In short, Bitzer defines Rhetoric as a complex of persons, events, or objects being introduced into a situation. What we can conclude from Edbauer when it comes to the role of circulation is that the suggestion of rhetoric be seen as ecological rather than situational so that the text continuously transforms. Rhetoric ecology is not discreet, but is constantly evolving. From Wysocki we can conclude that he likes to create visuals of all text. I believe that he sees this as a form of persuasion as well. He likes to be creative and add things that remind him of anything onto his visuals so that he could possibly grasp the reader’s attention. I would like to think the idea is for the visuals to have an effect on his work as a whole. Now, with Gladwell I think his ideas are a little hard to comprehend but what I conclude is that he’s saying that computer and paper goes hand in hand, but at the same time it doesn’t. What’s the biggest concern for most people is how to support the knowledge of the work.

  1. Situation is key. When talking about rhetoric, situation is everything.

I really like your idea for you project. You're right about the movie review and the rhetoric that an audience would receive or acknowledge that would persuade them to think a certain way about that movie. I also really enjoy where you are going with your book and radio idea. Sounds like a great project!
