Journal 3

I selected Deadpool as my main concept and chose the comic book, video game, and movie as my three artifacts. These artifacts show the different appeals to the audience by the use of genre and medium. When watching the movie trailer, the viewer can select between a redband and green version. This is basically the distinction between explicit and not explicit version. Another relation to rhetoric is the availability viewers have to watch the trailer. It can be viewed on a smartphone, tablet, or computer.

From Edbauer’s article, we can conclude that the constant movement of texts between composers, audiences, and other texts are always changing. These different aspects play the role in the ecology of rhetoric because they’re always working together. In Wysocki’s article we can see that the element of design is very fluid and comes in many ways. Wysocki explores the relationship between visual presentations and values of time and/or place. She explains how arrangement and visuals are persuasive by nature. After reading Gladwell’s article I have a newfound appreciation for paper. I have always been the kind of person who prefers handwritten notes and memos to anything digital. I had never tried to comprehend the importance of paper until now.

  1. I really like the idea of looking at different versions of a story by different creators. It can showcase different aspects/interpretations of the same story and characters that can reflect the time period that they're created in to show the values of the society in that era.

  2. Deadpool is a good choice since he comes across so differently in every medium. Good idea looking at how audience can access the character in different mediums, really makes sense when talking about rhetorical ecology.
