Journal 1

Writing is an expression of ideas and in a sense a way of venting to oneself. We write because our thoughts cant be trapped in our minds for long, and we need a safe space to set them free. We either write to analyze a book or a poem, write in out diary to not keep our emotions bottled up, we write letters, text messages, class notes ... it is all around us. It is a good way of communicating with one another and oneself. If we were not able to write and read out loud , then there would not be any form of expression around us. Writing is an outlet for our feelings, thoughts, and meaning given to certain things. We write to convey to the world around us, our purpose in this life or the purpose that we give to our surroundings. The fact that at any point in time we can pick up a pencil and paper and write whatever comes to mind is an incredible form of expression. Writing enables us to expand our knowledge, creativity, communication, understanding, and even entertainment.
I chose these five key terms to define writing because they all portray a different aspect of what writing is and what it does. Knowledge is power, and writing enables us to expand our knowledge. Not only with ourselves but with the world around us, as it allows us to present our ideas and points of view to the anyone. Every aspect of our creative minds; whether it be music, theatre, painting, writing poetry or prose, involves the act of writing ideas down. The more we write, the more creativity we take from our minds, and the more we expand on our artistic ideas. If it wasn't for writing, we would not be able to communicate as easily. It allows us to communicate with someone that lives on the opposite side of the planet, and it allows us to express our ideas to anyone in the world. Our understanding of the world, culture, language, the arts... is all enhanced when we write things down. We write things down to spread our knowledge and understanding, and to build upon past understandings to create new ones. Entertainment is another aspect of writing, crucial to theatrical performances, writing music, and of course literature. In essence, writing is one if not an extremely crucial aspect in our everyday lives. Writing allows one to escape the mind and create new ideas.
