Journal 1: Words that Matter
1.) Writing is a form of expression that allows for articulation of thoughts and ideas. Writing can be manifested in numerous forms to express any combination of ideas. Writing can be literal or figurative, and even a combination of the two. Writing allows ideas to be perpetual by writing concepts and expressions in some form, it allows for individuals to access it multiple times over a long period of time. Writing allows for the work to outlive its author and possibly travel farther than the author. Writing puts the ideas and feelings of a moment in a place that lasts longer than the moment itself. Writing is a medium that allows for the writer to express an idea and the reader is able to feel something or be moved. Different kinds of writing affect people in different ways. Writing is a difficult concept to define because it is an umbrella term that encompasses all forms of written expressions. Writing can be subjective or objective and vary in meaning and validity.

the essence of writing and its effect. Expression fits because writing is how
individuals express themselves. Writing can be used to express ideas, feelings,
and sentiments in a way that allows for a concrete depiction of these concepts.
Articulation describes writing because it is a form of expression which
requires individuals to think through how to communicate certain ideas or
concepts. Writing allows individuals to perfect expression of abstract concept,
ideas, and feelings in a concrete way with words that communicate meaning.
Perpetual describes writing because writing allows for expression to live
beyond the moment it was created. Writing is the expression of feelings and
ideas which otherwise would be unarticulated. In its purest form it is feelings
and ideas manifested as writing. Writing is movement because it moves
throughout time. Writing also has the ability to move individuals and force
them to feel things. When defining writing it is important to include its
effects it has on others. Lastly, because writing is a creation in itself, the word
conception illustrates the formation of a piece of writing.
