Mapping Journal

Writing is the gift of expression. It allows our thoughts and ideas to be recorded and shared. Writing is the main vehicle for expanding our knowledge. Written words are the heart and soul of numerous religions, the outline for languages and how we communicate as humans. It allows us to spread information and stories in mass collections. For many people, writing is a way of life, their career, their hobby.

-       Context: Writings can incite many different understandings and ideas of what the written words mean, I believe that providing a clear context for the purpose of your writing is key.
-       Creativity: Many of the greatest written works stemmed from a creator’s creative ideas being written down, the impact that can result from simply writing down a creative idea and expanding upon it is un-measurable.
-       History: If not for writing, we would have far less understanding of our past civilizations and cultures historical ways of life.
-       Audience: When writing, it is very important to have a directed audience for your content. You want the audience to be drawn into your work and have an understanding of your message.
-       Knowledge: I feel that the key to knowledge is writing, as children- writing teaches us how to read and write, thus allowing us to obtain and share knowledge.
-       Freedom: One of the beautiful things about writing is the ability to write down whatever it is that your heart desires. In any form, language, font or content- there is no limitation to what you may write.
-       Point of View: Writing gives humans the ability to record and share experiences through our own perspectives. Visions or other senses not experienced by anyone but a single person may be perceived by anyone through writing.

I chose these terms to define writing because I think that they are all main factors to take into consideration when writing anything. Some of the terms define certain forms of writing better than others, however they should all be taken into consideration. By writing this journal about the importance of writing, I take all seven of these terms into consideration.
