Journal 5 - 355 words

I think writing and composing are two different things. Writing is more putting words on a paper, while composing is doing this and focusing on your audience and why you’re doing it. This enables you to interact in a way different than orally. Answering questions clearly for your audience is imperative because you want them to be engaged readers. Composition can help with this because it pulls all the key factors together into one.
This project has helped me understand how important audience is in composing something. You are generally writing so someone else can read it, and if you aren’t focusing on his or her needs, your work won’t circulate, as you might like it to. When researching the key term audience I found that it is imperative to keep in mind who will be looking at your work.

I definitely think more about my audience now when writing and have focused on remembering that although I am doing most of my work for class credit, my instructor may not always be my audience. Circulation is something I have been thinking about as well because knowing where your work will be at can help you figure out how and what to write. Material is also important because having good content will keep your readers interested. If your material is up to par, then the readers will want to come back for more. I keep design in mind for the aesthetic. If something is pleasing to the eye, a person will be more interested in looking at what you have to say. I know I focus on the cover of books when choosing what to read because it can help me get a feel for what it will be about. I wouldn’t want to read something that didn’t interest me. Network is a way to help with circulation. There’s a quote that says, “it’s all about who you know,” which in part may be sad but it is true. The more people you know, the more your work can spread throughout a group of people. All of these words work together to help create composition.
