I would define writing/composing as the creation of an original, unique
work that is meant to carry a message to an intended audience through various
techniques and designs. The definition of composing has become much more fluid
in my eyes throughout the course of this class. Each of these enables us, the
writers/composers, to develop lasting pieces of work that will reflect our
individuality and ideas. As I said before, I feel that my ideas of composing
have become much more fluid and included many more aspects than I previously
had thought. Originally my understanding was writing/composing was simply
putting pen to paper, or fingers to a keyboard and typing away. After writing
in many different forms and genres, I have come to realize that composition, whether
print or digital, encompasses many more aspects than just embedding an idea.
The way that compositions relay a message is so unique in every way and no two
people will ever explain something the exact same. I learned that it's not so
much about the words, but also about the display and the genre that helps to
influence the right audience. Personally when I'm writing, I like to think
about key terms such as genre, audience, individuality, personality, and
message. I feel that writing/composing is meant to be original, leaving
individuality as a crucial aspect, but also there needs to be a certain
importance placed on who and what you are meaning to convey. Messages are
misinterpreted every day and when we are composers we must address our audience
directly and relay the proper message in order for our work to make sense.
Genre is a great way of showing uniqueness within a work. You can easily
manipulate what you are trying to convey simply by adjusting the genre of your
piece. I love to experiment with genre changes and analyze what a difference
the change makes regarding audience, attention and how my personality is able
to shine through in another aspect besides the words. Writing is meant to be an
art, an art with purpose and meaning. When I compose, I try my best to relay my
message is the most effective way possible.
