Journal 5 - Louisa Hallett

I find that writing enables me to clearly express my thoughts and ideas. I find it a very effective way to communicate to other individuals about various topics. I like writing, because it allows me to reflect on my thoughts and compile the correct research before expressing myself. I always like being accurate with my statements and I also understand that the written word is a powerful tool, especially when posting on the web. Whatever is written or composed can never be completely erased when it is published online. I define writing as: a form of communication that enables you to express inner thoughts and ideals to other individuals.
My previous experiences with writing were developed all at a very young age. Having a professor for a father and a school teacher as a mother, I quickly put into the activities of reading and writing! When you first start composing long forms of text, you are told to write in five paragraphs, use excellent transition words, and end with a strong conclusion. The older you get, you find how restricting that is and because you get older the more experiences you develop and the more you want to say. How are you supposed to fit all these thoughts into a mere five paragraphs?
This project honestly really worried me. I did not feel like I fully understood the purpose and what was fully expected out of the project until we did the peer review. I found the peer review very helpful and I enjoyed meeting a new person who was very enjoyable to discuss ways to improve each others projects with. In this project, I hope to display something a little different than other people might have displayed their exhibits, by incorporating a type of online version of the exhibit, which includes various images and youtube videos. If I had more time for this project, I would have loved to make the online exhibit even more interactive than that! However, due to a test on Tuesday, a 5 page paper due on Monday, a quiz due on Sunday, and a 10 page paper on Tuesday -- I did not have time to research more ways to make it more interactive! But, with that being said I am very proud with how my project turned out and the amount of effort I put into the entire project itself, brochure and all!
My set of 5-8 key terms would be:
-Audience: Who are you trying to communicate with?
-Medium: What is the most effective medium to display your text?
-Language: Formal or informal?
- Purpose: Why are you writing?
-Engaging: How do you draw in your audience?
