Journal #5

I define writing and composing as the ultimate creative tool. Writing allows us to express our creativity and imagination as well as our opinions and beliefs for others to see. Writing allows memories and events to survive through out time and be appreciated by audiences of different regions and times. It is our form of expression. My definition of writing comes from my background as a creative writer. I enjoy putting my ideas on paper for audiences to enjoy and provide feedback. The context of writing allows all of my audiences to observe the exact same work, rather than variations told orally. My experiences of creative writing as a part of the audience have been amazing. I am able to understand the content of experiences I have never had, simply by reading these composed works of creative writing. I would connect the same key terms to writing and composition as I did earlier this semester:
-     Context: Writings can incite many different understandings and ideas of what the written words mean, I believe that providing a clear context for the purpose of your writing is key.
-       Creativity: Many of the greatest written works stemmed from a creator’s creative ideas being written down, the impact that can result from simply writing down a creative idea and expanding upon it is un-measurable.
-       History: If not for writing, we would have far less understanding of our past civilizations and cultures historical ways of life.
-       Audience: When writing, it is very important to have a directed audience for your content. You want the audience to be drawn into your work and have an understanding of your message.
-       Knowledge: I feel that the key to knowledge is writing, as children- writing teaches us how to read and write, thus allowing us to obtain and share knowledge.
-       Freedom: One of the beautiful things about writing is the ability to write down whatever it is that your heart desires. In any form, language, font or content- there is no limitation to what you may write.
-       Point of View: Writing gives humans the ability to record and share experiences through our own perspectives. Visions or other senses not experienced by anyone but a single person may be perceived by anyone through writing.

My understanding of key terms and understanding of writing and composition have not changed. I believe that these key terms are still necessary for any composition or written work.
