Writing/composition is communication through expression. The
main point is to convey or communicate an idea. While writing focuses more on
using text to communicate, composition focus more on style. While writing the
exact language used in the text is integral. A message cannot be conveyed if
the language and text is off in the slightest. However, how the language or
text should be used is subjective and it ultimately lies with the audience you
are communicating with. Composition’s style is also subjective. But enables the
creator freedom. The structure in which the message is being conveyed lies
entirely on the creator, which forces that person to fully understand the
subject at hand.
Project 1
has helped me understand both of the terms a little better. When it comes to
writing, my artist’s statement taught me how to condense my message and make it
understandable. I had to choose the write language to convey my message but I
also realized I couldn’t repeat myself. I was saying the same thing over and
over and I had to find new ways of saying it. Writing is more than
communication sometimes. Sometimes writing is about finding the write way to
communicate a message without being redundant. This makes understanding the
subject at hand integral, but not as integral as composition. Composition
forces you to understand the term in more than just the literal sense.
Composition introduces structure and words cannot decide structure. While
composing my exhibit I realized this.
Communication,
style, and text are what I think of while writing and/or composing. Like I said
many times, communication is key while doing either so it’s what I ultimately
think about. I want to convey my idea or thought in the best way possible. That’s
where style comes into play. The way I structure my message helps my
communication and the better the style the more likely it will be that my
message will be understood. Text pops into my head just because I need a way to
communicate. With writing it’s letter that take the form of text, but if I’m doing
an exhibit text my take another form.
