journ 5

Writing is a noun. It's the finished product of composing. You are composing words, that in turn, become writing. Writing is there and it is finished. Composing is a verb. Composing is creating. Writing enables you to show off your product to others. Composing allows you to create the writing, that you end up showing off to others.

Yeah, you can be "writing a paper," but I look at it differently. My experiences with writing is creation of text for classes, personal use, and professional use. I've written for a few newspapers. I've written for a few classes. I've written for a few aspects of my life as a form of release. I produced a product in all three of those situation, and that's my writing. Everyone in the field uses their own terms for specific uses, but that's sorta what I get out of it. You can call writing the verb and composition the noun, you can call writing the noun and composition the verb. It doesn't matter. My personal experience is using the words the way I've explained.

My words are purpose, audience, formality, circulation, and medium. I chose these words because they were the ones that came to my head first. They were the most natural. Maybe they aren't the best, but they're what felt right at the right moment.

Purpose is why the text is being produced. Is it for a class? Is it because you're depressed? It exists for a reason. That's your writing's purpose.

Audience is who's reading your writing. Is it yourself? Is it yourself in front of a group of people? Is it a bunch of angry people on the internet?

Formality is how technical the writing is. You may be a technical writer for a textbook company who enjoys writing rap music. Not all writing is the same in that standard.

Circulation is how much your writing is being put out there. This is more particular with published work but, how many copies of your work are being published? How many followers does your blog have?

Medium is how your writing is being presented. Is it on the internet on a blog? Is it being published? It's in the world somehow.
