Journal 5

Even after working on project one and writing my artist’s statement I still don’t believe that there is a definite answer to the question “what is writing?”. I believe writing and composing is a way for people to communicate in all different forms. Writing can connect all different people in a way that no other forms of communication can. Writing for me is a way to be creative and open about my feelings. It is a way for me to express myself and tell stories. I also believe writing to be a way for me to get my point across with people actual listening to me. Writing can also be a way to convey information or send a message. I didn’t really have prior experience before this class when it came to creative writing so mainly the experience I have is from these first 5 weeks. The first project changed my mind when it comes to the key terms I think to define writing.

Audience: In every form of writing there is always an audience. The audience is the first step in creating a piece or text. Without knowing your audience or knowing who you are writing for then the text will not be successful in the way the author wants it to be.

Exigence: After doing project one I realized how important exigence is to writing and everything involved. Exigence can change the whole purpose and intended audience of a writing. There is always something that comes out of a situation, both good and bad, hence showing why exigence is so important.

Creation: No matter what type of genre an author is writing in they are always creating a work of art, piece, or text that helps them get their point across. This creation becomes something they are proud of, and the final product is what makes the work worth it.

Purpose: The purpose of the writing is very important to start something. Although the audience can change what the intended purpose was meant to be there still needs to be an original idea. This purpose could take the same exigence and extend it to many different audiences. Purpose will help spread information in many different ways.

Information: Overall the most important word that comes to mind with writing for me is information. All forms of writing have some sort of information in them and help spread the author’s point of view. Writing communicates information in a way that most other forms of language cannot.
