Journal 5
I would define writing as expressing ideas, thoughts and
information into a clear text version. It is created for different audiences
through miscellaneous forms of technology to express a message. This enables
writers to express themselves and contribute and promote their writing to
audience for personal use, critique, research, etc. My personal idea of
composing is one that is a creative work product, whether that includes
literature, music, art, etc., there are no restrictions. This enables people to
showcase their work to museums, galleries, music groups, peers, and family,
just about anyone. It allows for a physical copy and exhibition of ones
creative process.
My past experiences with these terms have helped to mold and
shape my idea of them because throughout my academic career, when I have been
told to write about a topic or write to inform my audience, I know my clear
instructions are to formulate my ideas and knowledge clearly onto paper or a
writing device to demonstrate my proficiency. From prior experience I know that
composing involves constructing or devising a piece of work such as writing,
art, or music as mentioned before to demonstrate creativity or information.
From practicing these two terms separately it has given me a better idea of what
makes them distinct. While writing or composing many key terms come to mind to
remind me of how to complete that task. Some of those include purpose- why are
you creating the work? Audience- who are you creating the work for? Design- how
are you going to creatively deliver your work? Theme- what is the central idea
of your piece? And lastly, content- what
are you saying or what information are you providing to your audience? Can you
back it up with research? Are you staying on topic and demonstrating knowledge
of your topic clearly and concisely?
