Journal 5

Yay, we are done with project 1! (happy pup)

After completing my artist statement, I define writing and/or composition as a form of communication and way of expressing oneself. It enables you to share an opinion, thought, or information. My prior experiences with writing and/or composition impacted my understanding of the terms tremendously. I was not familiar with all of the words listed so it affected the way I composed and the effectiveness of my communication. After doing research and hearing about the projects of my classmates, I understand a bit more about the interconnection between all the key words.
Researching the key words has made me more conscious of rhetorical pieces and what they entail. I pay more attention to the tools and technique a composer uses in order to accomplish their goal.
This journal takes me back to the first weeks of class where we first discussed what the rhetorical situation was.

As of now, my updated list of key terms for writing and composition are:
  1. AUDIENCE
  2. Medium
  3. Meaning
  4. Circulation
  5. Genre
I think my list may be a little biased because of the keyword I have been researching for the past couple of weeks. Most of them are connected and focus on an audience's interaction with a text and their interpretation. However, it also focuses on factors of a text that influence the way they react to a text.
I did not expect my view on rhetoric to change so much. I wonder if the next projects will do the same!
