Journal 5

Project one definitely influenced my definition of writing and composing. Before this project there were challenges in writing and things that are very important to focus on that I did not really account for. I would define writing and composing as a way of communicating ideas or concepts to other people. Project one definitely helped sharpen my understanding of delivering a message. This project strayed from what I am used to in terms of writing because the exhibit aspect limited my word count. I did not want to have an exhibit that was cluttered and felt like you were reading an academic essay. Having to condense my writing and explanation was challenging but I think it made for a great final product. Before this project I would have always picked to write a research paper that was intended for the professor and the professor only. This project helped me understand the importance of writing or composing with a specific audience in mind.

Prior to project one, my terms that defined writing were audience, planning, perspective, materiality, and focus. After finishing project one, I still believe that audience is the most important key term that deals with writing and composition. It is difficult to write something without having someone in mind that you’re writing for. The audience for my exhibit was very specific but can still be understood by others. I think I would place circulation somewhere at the top of the list of key terms as well. Circulation of the information you are writing or composing is important because it can lose its meaning if its not done the correct way. The genre and medium in which you’re writing or composing will circulate best in different ways. For example, a blog will have greater circulation and its intended audience will be usually be specific. I think planning and perspective are still a vital part of writing or composing anything. Project one took me a lot of planning and revision. Every time I would try and run with a new idea I had some sort of constraint until I put together my final exhibit. All in all, project one helped me alter my definition and understanding of my key term and writing and composition.
