When reading and looking across genre throughout
those three texts, I personally feel that Devitt did the best job of explaining
the idea(s) behind genre. Genre helps to categorize or group together elements
of literature that correlate or share similarities that could be compared or
referenced. Overall, this helps to create and establish a different meaning
behind the texts and help install a specific identity within them. This role
comes to life when reading and or creating texts because it helps to separate
the theme or central idea of the text and group it with others that share the
similar idea. This allows for easy access and exposure for these readings and
to be associated with other similar topics such as love, romance, adventure,
etc. This is related to audience because not only was it the audience that
actually established this title for the separation of text (so there are “technically”
no rules behind this idea), but it allows the audience to easily retrieve the
specific type of read (genre) that interests them or that they desire to obtain
and helps to directly classify the different groups. This is related to purpose
or the other genres because it shows the separation of all of the different
types of texts and the way that their central ideas are all supposed to be
perceived and identified. This impacts circulation because it allows for the
spotlight to shine directly on that specific genre when a book or piece of
literature is released from its class of genre, and it gives the audience a
better idea or understanding of the meaning of the text because of its linked
genre. This also varies considering how the text is released to the public,
whether it is presented to the audience as an e-book, hard copy, online book,
etc.
