Journal 4

Genre is a huge part of writing and reading. It is used to define what the author is writing about and what they may be trying to convey. It is made to help the intended audience in finding out what they are reading. Genre is used to classify the type of writing that the finished product is. It is important for the author to know his audience while writing because that will help him with trying to persuade or inform the intended readers.
Writing according to the specific genre you are working on is crucial because without that you wont be able to get your point across in the best possible way. There are many different genres, and sometimes you can mix multiple, sometimes you need to be aware not to. For example, if someone were writing on something very controversial and emotional, then maybe comedy wouldn’t be a good choice of genre.  The writers intended audience is the most important person to try and please when writing. With that, the writer should choose a genre that audience will like, enjoy, and be able to relate to it. If the intended audience is looking to read about sports, then making film or acting reference in the work probably wont go well or relate with the readers. The same can go for music. If an author/writer is writing about hip hop music, then talking about trucks, boots, and the country probably wouldn’t make sense or be beneficial. When an audience of two different genres overlaps a lot then crossing them over can be very effective. Hip hop culture is very alive and present among many basketball fans, so making a rap reference in a sports article can be very effective, or a rapper referencing an NBA star in his lyrics.

Audience and the circulation of text go very well together. Popular texts are generally popular because of the audience appreciating them and passing them along to other people. If you like something you are more likely to share it with someone or recommend that. This happens all the time with books, stories, poetry, articles, music, movies and much more. If the audience of a genre likes a work then it will get circulated to all other who enjoy similar genres and styles.
