Journal 4

I believe that the role of a genre is to put a category on a topic of text. It is important to follow along with a genre when creating a text so you can follow along with a specific theme. It can make sure the text is drawing to a specific audience. With a genre in place it allows the audience to already get an idea about the text and figure out what it is about. Genre depends on social context and the environment the characters are set in. Most people have a favorite type of genre, whether is for texts, audio, or film. Genre is related to audience in this way. I know that I personally have my favorite different types of genres and other audiences do as well. All genres do have some similar factors. They all have a purpose of letting the audience receive information and feeling, they communicate a particular message to even expression emotions. A story can take on all kinds of forms. It is the genre that really makes it come to live. For example, if it is science fiction, it will give it that scifi feel that you are looking for. When you go to a bookstore even, the books are categorized by gene or type, so you can go to the section you are looking for. Even movies nowadays are categorized by genre on Netflix and on television to help you pick the movie for you. Having genres makes finding the movie or text you are most interested in easier. Sometimes, genre works in different ways by communicating different meanings through text, sound or video. Looking at our readings, it is clear that every author has their own meaning behind the term genre. I believe that a genre can have a multitude of factors that create it, and the lines are sometimes blurred between multiple genres. A good audience should be able to piece together all of the hidden meanings to reveal the true genre and ideas of text, audio and film. Text and film are always trying to convey some sort of message through hidden meanings and their genres to teach a lesson or prove a point.
