Peer Review Free Write

This past summer I took Poetic Technique. Every Friday we brought in a new poem for peer review. It was helpful when someone knew what they were talking about, but I found that some people were giving me input that would not benefit my poems. Sometimes it is helpful, but I like receiving feedback from the teacher because they are the ones that are looking for particular things in whatever assignment they have given.

The feedback that I found most helpful during peer review sessions was listening to the different perspectives on the overall assignment, instead of minor details that they thought I should fix. That way, I can present the perspectives to the professor and see if he agrees, along with any structure/editing pointers he/she may give to better it.

It frustrated me when we peer-reviewed and students did not know what to say and they just came up with something that either wasn't relevant or wouldn't help my piece. I would rather peer review and only receive feedback if someone really had a good idea/input on whatever work they were reviewing. Sometimes it can be counter-productive if the student doesnt know what input to give and they come up with something because they feel obligated to.
