Journal 7

To me writing is still about expression and communication. Writing is the universal form of communication no matter what your outlook on technology is. A written message can say a lot and drive a point across. However, composing to me is how one can layer the process of communicating. Writing may be the most affective way of communication, but composing integrates other types of media that can layer a message and perfect communication all together. Editing on the other hand is about making sure the message is fully thought out and brought to light. While writing and composing are affective there may be areas where people can lose the message. A certain sentence or interpretation can throw someone off and that’s why editing exists, to keep the message on track. In the end communication and interpretation are necessary for defining all three terms.

Thanks to Project two I’ve come to realize these definitions. What I wrote was easy to understand and expressed my meaning to the best of its ability, and my assemblage, which I composed, added a layer of understanding and meaning. However, after getting my grade back I realized where my writing and composition could’ve lost its way. I understood how the overall meaning I was trying to get across was misinterpreted. Editing my work and rewriting it helped me fill in the holes of logic. While I didn’t perfect it, eventually I feel like I will get my message across. Editing is about constantly keeping your logic up to date and Project two showed me that.

My work in the magazine I write for has shaped my definitions as well. What I write is clear and contains all the information, however an article on a website requires some composition. Integrating images, videos, and hyperlinks guides the reader through the article easily and gives them layered content to fully understand my writing. But even if my message isn’t entirely clear my editors will help me find where I can get my message back on track. Whether it’s in my writing or layered content.

I integrated circulation to my theory of composing. Layering content requires outside sources, which you are interpreting through circulation, and releasing that composition will lead to new interpretations. All of this from how a composition circulates from beginning to end.
