Takeaways

One take away that I have is that rhetoric isn't completely stable and stagnant, it's something that reacts and changes as time passes and as discussions continue to occur. This take away is coming from Lunsford who discusses "rhetoric inherently joins an ongoing conversation," so part of rhetoric is the fact that it is involved in conversation and flow. Additionally, this is related to Estrem who makes a point discussing how writing is responsive and relational and could most likely also be related to Edbauer's rhetorical ecologies.

A second take away that I have may associated with Wysocki, and that is that genre and layout are reflexive to differing genre modes. So, that specific visual arrangements are often associated with and related to specific genres in different mediums. In the grid this idea was related to Shipka's idea of "multimodality" which seems fitting since in the majority of genres the layouts and designs are combinations of varying modes.

Question:
Can Shipka's ideas of the necessities of multimodality be correlated with Yancy's calling for a new language in the digital realm, since in digital spaces it seems that communications are extremely reliant on the use of multiple modes?
