I define writing as the act of taking thought or experience and placing it in a medium where you can express yourself or that you can share with others. Editing is when you revise what was previously written due to new experiences or information that could alter your previous opinion or standpoint on what was written. Composing is the process that takes place prior where you form the idea and the steps that you require to get the task at hand done. I think other parts that come into play in your composing process include your environment and a level of comfort that you need in order to fulfill it. I think environment and experience are crucial to all three. I think your environment will affect your composing process and what you tend to write about. I also think that when you get placed in a new environment or as previously discussed an uncomfortable environment it can affect things and potentially lead to necessary editing. This can also be said for experience. Most people tend to write and compose things around what they know and when your experience has been altered or you have been affected with a new experience then it can lead to a need to edit as well. I think audience plays a crucial role in all three too. When composing and writing you are creating this artifact for the purpose of attracting a particular audience but when something comes in contact with this audience or other audiences can lead to a need for editing to better understand your audience. This can also be said for circulation in the way something is composed and what is written and once again how it is perceived results in editing. Project two shaped my definitions because I needed to recreate an original text and edit it to fit a more modern and wide range audience that would previously not be able to access this information as it was. When composing and writing outside of this course I’ve utilized personal experience and taking careful consideration of the environment around me as well as the audience that I am trying to address when composing and this has affected the editing that I have done in my writing. I’ve added the aspect of environment because it plays an important role in each of these elements.
