Journal #7

I currently define the term writing as the process of creating using words that you arrange in ways to create meaning or tell a story using those words.  I define composing as the means of creating something for an audience that also conveys meaning and it aims to reach an audience.  Editing is a component of writing and composing, it is the process of reviewing the work or piece that you created and potentially changing its arrangement, words used, fixing any possible mistakes or even changing the meaning of the piece or intended audience one wants it to reach as a whole.  I also view writing, editing and composing as pieces of one another.  Writing obviously is a form of composing and editing is a part of the writing process and therefore the composing process since any piece of work can and should be edited at some point at least once.

The key terms I would select to define writing, composing and editing are audience, purpose, remediation and medium.  With writing, composing and editing you are trying to reach an intended audience and by composing and writing and therefore creating a work you are essentially creating something to reach an audience that you want it to reach and you are creating the work through writing and composing for a specific purpose and wanting to reach and audience for a specific purpose as well.  You edit the piece you composed or wrote in order to help ensure you reach the audience and match the intended purpose of the work.  I selected medium because the medium you choose is important when it comes to composing or writing because choosing the right medium for the piece of writing or what you are composing can have an impact on whether or not you reach the audience you want the work to reach.

For project two I worked with the term audience heavily and therefore it impacts how I define composing and writing, I view the audience as being the most important aspect of composing and writing.  Outside of this course I always write for an intended audience and therefore that impacts how I view composing and writing as a whole and how I therefore define the terms.
