Journal 7- Erika Suarez

I would define writing as the process of transitioning one’s thoughts into a type of written text. My definition of editing is to go back and alter some of these thoughts in some way. To define composing, I would say it is the process of actually creating a text. When it comes to writing, I think the key terms that are important are audience, genre, and purpose. For editing, remediation and purpose are important. For composing, I would say audience, design, and circulation are the most important. I think all of these terms are valuable for writing, editing, and composing, because there are several aspects needed for these terms to be completed and I think these key terms work together to create something successful. I think the remediation of an assemblage in project two really assisted me in learning how to put my own spin on something. More importantly, it taught me to always keep my audience in mind and design towards them and it allowed me to think more about circulation which I find extremely relevant. The specific details in the instructions and the several class activities that had to do with this project forced me to constantly ask myself while creating this project to make sure this is directed towards my audience and to use certain genre conventions that make the most sense and are the most beneficial.  Last summer I had an internship at a club known as The Tampa Club and I created and ran all of their social media pages for them and I also made some advertisements for them. However, I have since then learned that there isn’t a particular way that I should be composing and I learned more about using certain genre conventions to best get my audience’s attention and send a message. My definition of composing before taking this class was simply creating a text of some sort which I still believe. However, I have learned this semester that there is much more that goes into it to create something valuable. This definitely occurred through the many group discussions we held in class.
