Journal 7

I define composing as the creation of something. Writing and editing are a part of composing, and I would agree that composing is the final outcome of writing and editing. Writing is the process and editing happens as writing occurs to create the best possible result.
The key terms I would choose to define writing, editing, and composing would be
  • environment
  • medium/ material
  • assemblage
  • network
  • audience
  • circulation
These terms work together to create a fuller definition of writing, editing, and composing because they are all essential assets to create a well-rounded piece of work. After creating project two and discussing in class, I decided to add environment to my list. Where I work is important to me because I have a wandering mind. I have learned that I need to be completely focused to be able to produce my best work.

My courses outside of this course are mainly English courses, so I use the keywords learned in this class to help me create the best work I can. I’ve learned to focus on each of these things when constructing something, whether it is a paper or a project. Noticing where I am creating something and what is around me helps my mind learn. Things around me influence my writing and the work I do, whether it be a positive or negative influence. The biggest change I’ve made to my theory of composing is adding environment. I never thought about how important a study space is until I really dug deep into how I compose. I realize that my best work is done when I’m at the library because of the atmosphere.
