The word writing is a very simple
idea that can take on many different meanings or styles. Writing could be
viewed as the actual action of putting pen to paper or typing out words,
thoughts, or phrases on a computer. Writing is also a way of trying to convey a
message. This message can be sent out in numerous different ways like stories,
letters, research, speeches, etc. When comparing writing and composing I would
say the difference would be that composing usually has more thoughts behind it.
Writing can sometimes just be an aimless activity with the real end goal,
whereas composing usually has and end goal and a hopeful final product.
Composing is creating a complete work that is sensible from top to bottom.
Editing is a simple idea; it is just fixing the flaws and mistakes in the
original writings.
Some key terms that help define
writing, editing, and composing, are creativity, content, context, audience,
and exigence. Creativity is necessary for writing and composing because it is
what makes the finished work appealing to readers. The content and context are
important because it is good for the reader to have a general idea of what they
will be reading before they start. Audience is important because without the
audience there is a strong argument that most writing doesn’t carry much weight
and can be viewed as pointless without an audience. The exigence is important
because that is what describes what the writing is about and why it is being
written about.
Project 2 changed my opinion on
these words because I realized that there is so much more to the terms
composing and editing. It’s easy to think that editing is only to be done to
flawed pieces, but that’s not true. Many assemblages are edited pieces, but
that doesn’t mean they were flawed or wrong to begin with. Composing can be
looked at from many different points, but project 2 helped me understand composing
better with remediation and assemblage.
I am currently taking a creative
writing course and that is constantly changing my view of composing because
trying to create a goof short story that can be appealing to all can be
difficult.
At the beginning of this semester I
would’ve just attached the word composing to music, but now I would put
composing with any form of rhetoric.
