Journal 7- PKG

define writing as a means of composing. Writing is one possible process of composing. Composing is the creation of an idea, an idea fleshed out. Composing does not have to be writing, but writing is composing. Editing can occur while composing or while writing. When thinking about what an author wishes to convey, he or she may edit himself or herself.  Additionally, editing can happen after something has already been composed to make it a finalized product. Key terms for writing, editing, and composing include:

- exigency
- content
- circulation
- investigation
- audience
- form/structure
- creativity

All of these words can work for writing, editing, or composing, so they help me to realize that these three terms are extremely similar. Although it appears that they have different meanings before analyzing the key terms, they really are all part of one unit and create one product.

Project Two helped shape my definitions by expanding my viewpoint on composing. It showed me that composing can be more that just the written word. Through doing a narration and video, I learned about the process of editing while composing. This happened because I had to carefully think about what I would say to make sure that it would be concise but provide enough context to not leave the audience confused.
Outside of the course, I have learned more about composing mainly through theatre. I have learned more about how to look at a play when producing it and how to best reach an audience.

My theory of composing has changed because I added “environment.” Environment is important because personally, if I do not have the right environment, I cannot get anything done. If my workspace or even entire apartment is messy, I have trouble concentrating, perhaps because I then concentrate on the mess around me. However, an organized mess is fine. I just finished writing a research paper where I had piles of research on my floor. To an outside person, they probably seemed chaotic, but they made sense to me.
