Journal 7

I currently define the terms writing, editing, and composing in similar but different ways. Writing is a medium that is used to convey a message or emotion. Editing is usually picking and choosing certain things to make into a final piece and correcting errors made by the creator. Composing is something that is created with an intent in mind and is also unique to whoever created it. I think key terms necessary to define these three terms would be context, circulation, flow, individuality, organization, and environment. Each work together with these terms for the overall outcome of whatever is being composed. My experiences with project 2 shaped my definitions in that it reaffirmed what I had already thought of these terms. My experiences outside of this course are what originally led me to come up with each of these definitions. Going through this class I have not strayed far from my original definitions because I feel that my views on what editing, writing, and composing are have not changed, they have just been improved upon. One specific change I've made to my theory of composing was adding circulation. I did not realize the impact that circulation had on composing until taking this course. I was shocked by how time and time again circulation was talked about and just recently, because of project 3, was able to grasp the importance of the term and how it affects the composing process.
