I have had good past experiences with peer review, although only as recently as last semester here at FSU. It was only helpful the times when both of us (or the whole group) had our entire idea/project/paper together and were pretty much at the same point in the overall process. It made it better too when both parties fully understood the project information and what the other person was doing, otherwise too much time is spent explaining and not reviewing. I think peer review can be helpful when there is enough time to actually overview the entirety of the project and again, when the people sharing understand each aspect of the project. The process is frustrating when I don't understand the project and haven't gotten far along and therefore have nothing to contribute to the other person.
