Journal 4

When we look across the different genres of our three texts, we can see the roles of the different genres when creating or reading texts become apparent. The role of the genre helps give a representation of the text being displayed as well as adding flexibility to the context and message the text portrays to its audience. In other words, it should be the most suiting genre to deliver the most powerful affect on the audience.

Genre is a huge decision when it comes to the factors that create composing because the shape of the text and its presentation to the audience affect the reaction it receives from its intended audience. If we wanted as many people as possible to see our text we would probably use a web-based genre, but if we need a tangible object form people to hold onto it might be more appropriate to use a brochure or flier to communicate the textual information.

The texts are related to audience and purpose because each addresses a specific topic of the genre of a text. One has the purpose of informing the audience of how to design a layout for a document, while another teaches about how to design visual texts, and the last shows the audience the importance of using images and photographs online. All of the texts are from a similar genre, but they flow across many different genres because the ideas behind all of them could apply to not only online text, but to any sort of rhetorical text in print, or online. Knowing correct design techniques for the most visual pleasing aesthetic could go across multiple genres and media to anyone who wants to affectively persuade their audience.

Genre choice also impacts the circulation and distribution process of text because it decides the very foundation of how a text can physically be distributed. If the genre is only specific to a small audience, it may have a smaller distribution and circulation process, but if it is a socially broad genre, it may have a larger distribution range. Also the genre of technology may affect the circulation of the text. For example a Tweet on Twitter may have a wider circulation and audience than an article in a local newspaper because of the genres medium.
