Well
to begin, genre is a type of art, a category of artistic composition. It
displays content, subject matter and style. In order to fully understand genre,
I feel that it is necessary that you are reading to understand the message that
it is trying to convey. Understanding this term would make it easier for
writers to express the messages they are trying to come across without
complication or confusion. You want your readers to know and follow along with
your work. Without comprehending the text it would make it hard for the reader
to understand what they are reading without the general knowledge of a text.
Genre factors into our decisions because reading text is something that we do
on a daily as a part of our lifestyle. Genre can be literature, or even music;
Music is also something that we hear or listen to on a daily basis. You may
want to change a book or a radio station until your liking which gives you some
decision of genre making. I believe that genre is all tied into one; in a way,
they all correspond within each other.
With audience and purpose the genre of writing
can sometimes be specific, such as writing documents for someone. You must
first know who your audience is so that you know what you are working with and
at the same time also have a sense of purpose for what it is you are doing.
Some documents might require the use of titles, page numbers or even subtitles.
Each document would consist of something different in specifics depending on
the situation at hand. To speak on genre would be to identify a set of
conventions that should be followed. Understanding the genre of writing and
knowing the conventions could be a great way to improve the writer’s task.
Writers will be able to improve in their works in the future with a better feel
of genre and its relation with reading or creating text. I feel that genre
impacts the circulation and distribution process because everyday something new
is happening or something is changing which can impact our decisions when it
comes to genre choice.
