Journal 4

The role of genre in creating or reading texts is important because it caters to the intended audiences. The genre affects our decisions while composing for many of different reasons. First, whether or not the genre is print or online affects how we may title, format, or layout the writing. Also, if the genre is more professional or more leisure also affects our style or writing. Genre is related to audience because specific genres carry specific audiences. The audience of say Facebook is severely different than the audience of say Fox News. Of course there is some overlap, but both genres focus and cater their writing in different styles. Some genres hold audiences of all ages, some hold younger audiences, and some hold older audiences, all of which are accounted for when the writers are writing the material. The genre choice impacts the circulation and distribution processes because genres have different ways of sharing. For example, an online genre has a much quicker and larger circulation. Within seconds the writing can be tweeted, shared, or posted for millions to view. A newspaper has a smaller circulation, for several reasons. The audience is a lot smaller; a city or a town, and it takes a lot longer to distribute. Music even has a different circulation and distribution process; because it is distributed through radio or social media, and to a wide audience.
