Journal Entry #4

A genre of a piece is essential to its purpose. How something is presented has a crucial role in how that piece is perceived. For example, a resume for a CEO positon would not be presented on a blog with bright colors and cute pictures. However, a blog that has a purpose of informing the readers of the writer's life and adventures could be effective if it is bright and colorful. Both pieces have different purposes, therefore, they have different genres. With those different purposes, comes different audiences. The type of audience that the piece is addressed to also determines what type of genre should be used. For example, if a piece is directed towards an older generation, it probably shouldn't be on a medium like Facebook. If something is targeted towards children, it shouldn't be in a novel. The genre of the piece determines how people interact with that piece.

Genre choice has a big influence on the circulation and the distribution of the text. A genre's medium greatly effects the circulation just on what it is. For example, something that is posted on the internet for the whole world to see definitely has a bigger circulation and can reach for people than something posted in a local newspaper.
