Journal #7

Writing can be defined as inscriptions of signs and symbols that enables human communication and represent spoken language. Editing is the process of modifying written material. Composing is the process we engage in before writing (or creating) that is based on personal preferences and experiences.  When discussing these three terms, I believe they are each in a category. Writing relates to genre and modes. Editing can easily be connected to remediation and assemblage. Composing can be in correlation to circulation, audience, and design. These key terms made me come to the realization that writing, editing, and composing is a continuous cycle that receives and gives. As writers we try to cater to our audiences and they produce feedback through circulation and remediation. I like the fact that there are so many arranges in this cycle because it represents our preferences in composing. Project two really helped put emphasis on composing. Honestly, I really never paid quite attention to composing because I thought it was something miniscule that everyone engages in. For project two, everyone was concerned if their assemblage was actually an assemblage. When we did our peer review, I noticed the different ways we took the word assemblage and essentially made it our own. Project two also put remediation and assemblage in my rear view mirror because these two terms are quite essential in my composing process and it relates to writing. We all gain our own perspective from looking at the work of others. Thanks to my what is a text class, I look at these terms much deeper then what meets the eye. From the different theorists I come in contact with that challenges general thinking, I believe these key terms deal strongly with the experiences the writer has gone through which determines his or her course of action. One change I’ve noticed is the form in which it takes. I’m highly interested in this cycle and how all these words feed off each other in a sense. What brought this on all relates to project one and how I somewhat became an expert on the term circulation. Circulation is a continuous cycle that goes on and on and I believe these terms are the result of that.
